TOM BLACHFORD

A night view of the Nakagin Capsule Tower built 1970 by Kisho Kurokawa. An example of the Metabolist movement of modernism the tower was meant to grow and change with the needs of its inhabitants, specifically by replacing the pods with different models or swapping them out when they needed replacing.

Unfortunately in 2021 the Nakagin finally succumbed to pressure from developers and the dismantling of the structure began. Whilst some pods were purchased for display in museums many were beyond repair having been overtaken by mould.

This images now stand as a testament to a lost architectural masterpiece.
