BOLTHOLE - DEAN BRADLEY

“At a glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that you are viewing a mausoleum, or bunker. An unfolding cavernous hall of off-form raw concrete, brutal in nature, with its purpose to defend against all that threatens. Look closely however and you’ll see subtle details that contradict.

Details signalling domesticity. Shards of soft ambient light filtering through tall sheets of glass, that might otherwise be artificially illuminated. It is indeed a home. A home starkly juxtaposed with that in its traditional form. It is minimal and brutal. It is a safe place, a Bolthole that once inside protects you from the elements out.

You remove your shoes, rest a hand on the wall and feel its warmth, step forward and submit, you are home...”
