WELL, WELL, WELL. WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE? - EVAN MACLEAN

“When you were a kid, did you ever wonder if everyone else sees the world as you do? Like, is red red to them or do they see red as purple? Imagine what the world would be like if colours were completely shifted. Now let’s extend that to our animal friends.

In the movies and cartoons, I always thought the way they portray the vision of insects with compound eyes as absurd. As if they see the world with hundreds of exactly the same image. Nonsense! But what would it actually be like to see as a fly or an octopus or a pigeon? What a crazy superpower that would be.

Now, once you start to think about the vision of our fellow earthlings, imagine how their brains interpret that visual input. Take this very cool crow for instance. Corvids are one of the most intelligent bird species on the planet so how is it interpreting this very strange human getting disconcertingly close to it with a bizarre object in front of its face. I’d love to be on the other side of that shot to know the exact experience. It’s probably thinking the same thing.”
