WALT - KATHERINE LU

“I took this photo on an impulse, amused by its incongruity. What was this character doing here, dropped into a foreign land without its full costume box?

Mickey (or is it Minnie?) Mouse is an iconic figure - a universal symbol for fun and happiness (and capitalism) that transcends space and time, language and culture.

Far from its home, this silhouette has outgrown its roots and migrated to Xiamen, China. Like it’s cousin in the happiest place on earth, the person sweltering underneath the costume will take it off, go home and continue their day far removed from the perfect cartoon life.”
