The Beach - Tom Ferguson  

“The Beach is located adjacent to the main North South runway of Sydney's Kingsford Smith airport. It is the place where you can get physically closest to an aircraft without flying somewhere, and has been a viewing spot for plane spotters for decades. The airport is a place of both home and away. The place that brings you home, the place that takes you away. It is a place of significance to me as I have been coming here since I was a kid, getting out of home on weekend afternoons and dreaming of going away. In photography terms it represents my away time as a photographer. In this photo the subject is both the photographer and the plane. We're not quite sure who is being protected from who. Both subjects are home and both are away.”
