Laimos House - George Apostolidis
“I became infatuated with image making at the age of eleven. My professional photography career spans over forty-five years with exposure to an array of national and international clients and subject matter including Architecture, Industry, Still Life, Military, Nature and People. It’s all photography to me as I really do not like pigeonhole titles.
The Laimos House 1963-2023” is the home of my birth, situated in far Northwest Greece.
Up to the age of seven, this once beautiful solid home had a big impact on my life, steering me to the love of nature and the elements.
I distinctly remember my family leaving the house one cold winter morning in December 1963. There was so much snow that the front door would not open, and my uncle had to clear a path for us to exit.
Laimos was once a thriving border town, however post the second world war and the closure of all borders by the iron curtain, the inhabitants left this idyllic location to try their luck in the new world.
Sadly, in time the house has deteriorated to its current state, due to weathering and lack of maintenance.
No longer can one go in and walk up the stairs, stand on the balcony and enjoy the 180-degree view of the Prespa Lake district that borders three countries. I improvised by flying my drone in to possibly capture one of the last views I’ll see from inside, as I doubt the house will survive another winter.
RIP Laimos House.”
